Columbus Students Celebrate Agriculture at Hilltop Farm

On April 30, the Mid-Ohio Farm on the Hilltop welcomed more than 600 students from Columbus City Schools (CCS) for MOFC’s first-ever Ag Celebration. The event, which featured live animals, tours of the farm, and educational demonstrations, was the largest community gathering at the facility to date and MOFC’s biggest-ever event with CCS.

Throughout the day, kids learned about nutrition from the Mid-Ohio Farmacy team while enjoying snacks prepared by Mid-Ohio Kitchen. Students saw the farm’s hydroponic systems at work and learned more about the science of growing food from Mid-Ohio Farm staff. The Ag Celebration is the farm program’s biggest educational outreach effort yet.

“Visiting a working farm is the best way for our kids to imagine a future in agriculture,” said MOFC Farm Education Coordinator Sean McKay. “They got to see that farming is a STEM field. It’s about technology, math, science, and public health. And when it’s so close to home, they can see themselves and their neighborhoods in this work.”

The Mid-Ohio Farm asset lets students, neighbors, and aspiring growers tour our facilities to see innovative, STEM-inspired agricultural techniques in action. Visit www.mofc.org/farm for more information.
