Truck fleet convoy sheds light on the reach of the Foodbank

GROVE CITY, Ohio — Mid-Ohio Food Collective (MOFC), in partnership with Kroger, is showcasing the strength and reach of its fleet of trucks to raise awareness of the work to distribute food to families who are struggling across its 20-country footprint, wrapping up September’s Hunger Action Month.

Since the onset of COVID-19, Mid-Ohio Food Collective has distributed more than 124.4 million lbs. of food to more than 230,000 families. The Food Collective is hosting a brief press conference featuring representatives from Kroger, Mid-Ohio Market at HEART and the MOFC team. Following the remarks, more than one dozen trucks departed from the Foodbank as a single convoy.

The convoy is leaving our facility, turning right onto Brookham Dr. and taking the round-about to Gantz Road. The trucks are turning left onto Stringtown Road and entering onto Interstate-71 South. The convoy is exiting the highway at OH-665 London-Groveport Road and is returning, following the same route, to our Brookham Drive facility. One of the trucks is stopping at the Kroger store located at 5965 Hoover Road to receive a delivery slated for Grove City Food Pantry.

“Our drivers are essential in making sure that no one in our community goes hungry, helping to distribute enough food for 170,000 meals a day across our service area,” said Matt Habash, President & CEO of Mid-Ohio Food Collective. “With the pandemic still underway, we continue to experience an increase in demand for food with nearly 34 percent of our customers coming to us for help for the first time.  We are incredibly grateful to Kroger, one of MOFC’s longest-standing partners, who supports both our short-term emergency work, as well as our long-term efforts toward ending hunger.”

“We are grateful for the effort of Mid-Ohio Food Collective and our entire community to lift up Kroger’s Zero Hunger | Zero Waste commitment, which continues to drive meaningful outcomes,” said Amy McCormick, Kroger Columbus Division Corporate Affairs Manager. “There are still many families and communities experiencing the impacts of hunger and waste in our country. We are committed to doing even more to meet our goals and create a future with zero hunger and zero waste – and we encourage other organizations to join our moonshot mission.”

Reporters and news crews are encouraged to bring drones to capture aerial footage.
